Helen
Patricia Stout, 57, of Seaside, died at her home on June 26, 2004.
She was born
Dec. 21, 1946, to Arthur and Mary (Bartholdi) Anderson, the sixth of
eight children. She was raised in The Dalles and graduated from The
Dalles High School in 1965. She married Doug Stout on Sept. 7, 1966.
She was a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to travel, paint,
garden, cook and quilt by hand. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory
Catholic Church in Seaside.
She is
survived by her husband, Doug Stout; two daughters, Patricia and her
husband Kerry of Portland, and Elizabeth and her daughter, of Texas;
and one son, Robert Stout of Portland, and his two sons; and her
brother and sisters, Don and Marilyn Anderson of Lacey, Wash., Barbara
and Raymond Johnson of The Dalles; Karen Yarbrough of Williams burg New
Mexico, Virginia and Bill Miller of Pendleton, Wanda and Orial Burnell
of Turner, Ore., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents and brother LeRoy.
Her service
was July 1 and committal was at the Willamette National Cemetery in
Portland with Father Nicholas Nilema ALCP.

Carolyn Mae
(Blum) Westin, 54, a resident of Gresham and a former resident of The
Dalles, died at a Portland hospital on Feb. 20, 2001.
She was born
the only child to Karl (Slim) Blum and Dorothy Blum on Nov. 16, 1946,
in Wisconsin.
She enjoyed
sewing, photography and travel, but most of all, enjoyed her family.
Survivors
include her husband, Richard Westin and two daughters, Allison and her
husband Nick; and Jessica and a son, Kevin, and his wife Holly and
their son, Tyler.
Services
will be held Friday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at Eastman Bateman Carroll, 520

Jerome “Jerry” Dietz Jr.

Jerome “Jerry” Dietz Jr., 60, a resident of
Gresham, died Nov. 26 [2006] in Portlan d.
He
was born Nov. 12, 1946, in Vanport, and he was the son of Adam and
Mildred (Lowe) Dietz. Heattended The Dalles High Schooland on May 3,
1969,he married Jacquelyne Sue Windsor in Reno, Nev.
In
1969, heworked for Platt Furniture Assembly, and after that he spent
four years as an apprentice furniture upholsterer.
In
1974,he and his family moved to Dufur, and he started Dietz Custom
Upholstery in The Dalles. He took great pride in creating unique pieces
of furniture for his clients.
In
1980, he and Jackie divorced, and he moved to Portland in 1981, finally
residing in East County. He continued doing custom upholstery from his
home until he retired.
During
retirement, he enjoyed trying his luck at the Multnomah County
Greyhound Park, taking trips with his friends to the casinos, betting
on his favorite football team, playing Bingo and hitting the big
jackpots. He spent many hours riding his Harley Davidsons, keeping them
in perfect condition. He loved the outdoors and taking his
granddaughters on fishing trips.
He
is survived by his daughters, Susan Dietz of Corbett, Oregon and Diana
Dietz of The Dalles; brother, Antone Dietz of The Dalles; and sister,
Sandra Winters of Sedrowolley, Wash.; along with two grandchildren.
A
memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at Bateman
Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. TDC

Karyl
Lee Martin, 40, resident of The Dalles since 1953, died on Saturday
when she was hit by a falling tree near Dufur.
She was born
Aug. 12, 1946 in Sutton, N.D.
She was a
member of Faith Lutheran Church and was a 1965 graduate of Wahtonka
High School. She worked as a night registrar for Treaty Oak Community
College.
Survivors
include her husband, Edward, The Dalles, whom she married Aug. 6, 1966
in The Dalles; two daughters, Mrs. Greg (Kara) Nicolson and Kelli
Martin, both of The Dalles; her father and stepmother, Wilbur and Dee
Fadness, The Dalles; three brothers, Michael Fadness, Modesto, Calif.,
and Richard and Steven Fadness, both of The Dalles.
Funeral
services will be at Faith Lutheran Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with
Pastor Eugene Schooler officiating. Burial will follow at The Dalles
IOOF Cemetery.
Casket
bearers will be Jim Gualco, Ron Taylor, Bob Sjdak, Steve Lehman, Carl
Burgum and Elemer Issac.
Memorials
may be made to the Faith Lutheran Memorial Fund or to the Karyl Martin

Patricia Gay Gallagher, 59, a lifelong resident of The Dalles
, died
Thursday Dec. 28, 2006, at her home.
She was born Nov. 15,
1947, in The Dalles. The daughter of Patrick
and Bertha(Dixon)
Gallagher. She
was raised in The Dalles and graduated from high
school in 1965. After high school she went on to get her CNA. She
worked in health care for many companies before she
started her own business: Pat's Meds Service.
She always put others
first and helped any and everyone. She loved spending time with family
and animals, especially her dog Hidie. She was a member of St.
Peter’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her
brother Pat and his wife Diana Gallagher of Goldendale; sister Thelma
and her husband Bob Stewart of California; nieces, Mary Catherine
Preston of The Dalles and Kelly Gallagher of Beaverton; nephew, Greg
Gallagher of Goldendale; and great-niece Rachel Gallagher of Goldendale.
She was preceded in death
by her parents and Sister Barbara Preston.
A memorial
service will be held Friday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at the St. Peter
Catholic Church with Fr. Todd Unger officiating. Private cremation was
held at Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home
in care of arrangements.

Elizabeth Kennedy Baker, 32,
a resident of Reno and former resident of the The Dalles, died Tuesday
at a Portland hospital of injuries received in a horseback riding
accident.
She was born
Aug. 3, 1947, and attended The Dalles High School where she was
salutatorian of the Class of 1965. She was the Elks Scholarship winner
that year.
Survivors
include her husband, Ed Baker, Reno; a daughter, Renee, also of Reno;
her parents, Ruth Kennedy and M. Bryce Kennedy, Sr., both of Reno; two
brothers, Michael N. and M. Bryce Kennedy, Jr., both of The Dalles;
three nieces and nephews.

Warren Moore
Warren
R. Moore, 59, a former resident of The Dalles,
died Jan.30, 2007.
He was born Sept.
17, 1947, in Walla
Walla, Wash., and was raised in The Dalles,
where he graduated in 1965. Warren was the Red Team Service
Manager for Town
& Country
Chevrolet in Gladstone for the past five years, earning
numerous
customer service awards.
He
married Barbara Shipley-Oades March 14, 1986, and resided in Gladstone
since 1988. Survivors
include his wife; daughter, Kristi Short, Jacksonville, Fla.;
son-in-law, LTJG Michael Short U.S. Navy, Jacksonville; grandson,
Alexander Short, Jacksonville; father, Dale Specht, The Dalles; son
Jason, Prosser, Wash.; granddaughter Kaylee, Prosser. His
mother, Nora Specht, preceded him in death.
A
celebration of his life will be held at 7 p.m., Feb. 8, 2007, at
Milwaukie Christian Church.

James Dale
Powell, 57, longtime funeral director in The Dalles, died Sunday, Oct.
10 due to complications from an aortic heart valve replacement at the
local hospital.
He was born Aug. 13, 1947 in Bend, the third of nine children to Edward
Aloysius and Mildred Marie (Zeller) Powell. He lived in Redmond until
the family moved to The Dalles in 1954.
He attended
St. Mary’s Academy and graduated from The Dalles High School
in 1965. While in school he was active in 4-H, Future Farmers of
America, student Kiwana and was “UPRR FFA Star
Farmer.” He also worked for his father’s welding
shop, in various orchards and stocked cabooses for Union Pacific.
He started
with Spencer & Libby Funeral Home on July 1, 1965, working the
summer and when home from Oregon State University. In June 1966, he
began his funeral service and embalmers apprenticeship under Ken Libby.
He married Mary Ann Jeffreys on Dec. 30, 1966, at Corvallis, and they
settled into the upstairs apartment above Spencer & Libby
Funeral Home that has been their home for almost 38 years.
In October
1967, he graduated from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and
completed his state boards for licensing in January 1968. In April
1975, he purchased Ken Libby’s share of the funeral home and
it became Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. In 1981, he
bought out Donald Spencer and he and his wife operated the business
with the part-time assistance of Barnie Ross. In 1992, Jim’s
son, Mark Powell came into the business and Win-Quatt Crematory was
installed in June 1992, serving all the funeral homes in the
Mid-Columbia area.
The Powells
purchased Smith Callaway Chapel in October 1996 and continued to
operate both funeral homes.
In October
2002, Doug Tuning joined the firm.
He was a
member of St. Peter Catholic Church and, in his younger days, he had
been very active with the Knights of Columbus, St. Peter Parish
Council, Jay-cees, 4-H livestock club leader for many years, and
superintendent of the sheep barns at the county fair. He was active
with St. Mary’s Parents Club and also designed and built a
number of projects for St. Mary’s plays and classrooms, as
well as the tables and kitchen set for the kindergarten.
He enjoyed
helping his kids with their homecoming projects, even having all three
of their classes working on projects at the funeral home
simultaneously. He was also a sponsor of youth activities including
Campfire Girls, Little League, girls softball, Boy Scouts and 4-H. He
was Business Man of the Year in 1992 and also received the Home
Beautiful award. He was one of the top eye enucleators for Lions Eye
Bank of Oregon from 1975-1995.
His passion
for helping others in their grief extended into listening to people as
he hoed or watered his flowers around the funeral home. He was a farmer
at heart, planting thousands of annuals each year and always planning
on how to make the neighborhood more beautiful.
Though
always working, he always found time for his Sunday night date with his
mother, loved his large extended family and delighted in his six
grandchildren.
He is
survived by his wife, Mary Ann, The Dalles; his children, Katherine
“Kitty” Powell and her husband, Mark Swinth,
Portland; Holly Powell Walrod, Ventura, Calif.; and Mark and his wife,
Chelsea Powell, The Dalles; six grandchildren, Edison Powell-Walrod;
Emily Ann, Kira Lee and Tucker James Swinth; and Claire Bleu and Oscar
Jack Powell; his mother, Mildred M. Powell, The Dalles; mother-in-law,
Beverly J. Jeffreys, The Dalles; his sisters, brothers and spouses,
Judy Ann and Jim Marick, Vancouver, Wash.; Janet M. Powell and Jeri
Powell-Knudson, both Milwaukie; Joyce Powell-Morin and her husband
Tony, The Dalles; Joseph and Judy Powell, The Dalles; Jean Powell-Marks
and her husband, Jim, Portland; and Jeffrey Powell, Kent, Wash.; aunts
Helena Wagner, Pontica, Mich.; Bernie Falson, Buffalo, N.Y.; and Sister
Mary Aloy Powell, Denver, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Powell, in August 1969;
his father, Ed, in October 1987; and his brother-in-law, Tom Knudson in
Nov. 1988; and father-in-law Edwin D. Jeffreys in March 1998.
Viewing
visitation will be at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home from 2pm
through the Recitation of the Rosary at 7pm on Thursday, October 14,
2004.
Mass of
Christian Burial will be held Friday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at St.
Peter’s Catholic Church with interment at St. Peter Catholic
Cemetery and a reception following. Memorials may be made to St.

Arnold Robertson
Larry Arnold Robertson, 60,
formerly of The Dalles, died in Las Vegas on Sept. 10, 2006, after a
long battle with cancer.
He was born
in Portland on March 8, 1946.
After
attending school in The Dalles he enlisted in the United States Marine
Corps in 1964, and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. He achieved
the rank of Gunnery Sergeant USMC.
After his
retirement from the military in 1986 he pursued a second career in
aviation and became an accomplished pilot.
He is
survived by his wife, Josie, of Las Vegas; daughter, Chira Faye, Marina
Del Ray, Calif.; brother, Dan, Cottonwood, Calif.; aunt, Lee
Wagonblast, Lexington; and uncle Cork McCloud, Vancouver, Wash.
He will be
interred at Arlington National Cemetery in
Washington, D. C.

Dale Rowland
Alan Dale Rowland, 58, a
resident of The Dalles, died at the local hospital on Saturday, April
22, 2006.
He was born
in Boise, Idaho, on Sept. 14, 1947 the fourth of five children to
Norman Alexander and Bertha (Uhl) Rowland.
As a young
child he moved to The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High School
in 1965. After graduation he went into the U.S. Navy as an air sea
rescuer in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. After the service,
he returned to The Dalles working for a short time for Les Schwab Tire
Center and the Aluminum Plant, until he was hired with the Union
Pacific Railroad as a conductor. On Feb. 12, 1966 he married Peggy L.
Eads in The Dalles.
He enjoyed
fishing, golfing, running his dog, playing with his grandchildren and
spending time at the Deschutes River. He was a member of the Moose
Lodge and American Legion.
He is
survived by his wife Peggy Rowland; his two children, Scott and his
wife Lisa, and Dawna and her husband Randy Seibel, all of The Dalles;
his six grandchildren, Colton, Meghan, Madison, Kory, Tyler and Kayla,
all of The Dalles; his two brothers, Ron Rowland, The Dalles; and Fred
Rowland, Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
He was
preceded in death by his mother and father, a brother and sister and
his step father.
A casual
celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m. at
the Moose Lodge with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of
arrangements.

Cornelius Thompson
Joseph Cornelius Thompson,
38, a resident of Salt Lake City since 1965, was killed in an
automobile accident near there on Sept. 10, 1985.
He was born
in Twin Falls, Idaho on March 6, 1947 and was the son of Cornelius and
Celia Thompson. He grew up in The Dalles and was a member of the Class
of 1965, which recently celebrated its 20th class reunion, which he
attended. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints and served his missions in Colorado and New Mexico. He graduated
from Brigham Young University in business.
He is
survived by his wife Larine, two daughters, Amy and Leigh and one son,
Jesse, and his mother Celia Thompson.
His father,
Cornelius, and a daughter, Addie, died earlier.
He was an
avid hunter, fisherman, bowman and runner.

Watkins-Barlow
Diane Linda (Watkins) Barlow,
55, a resident of Medford (Oregon), died at her home on Friday, March
28, 2003.
She was born
April 25, 1947, in The Dalles to Leonard Wade and Muriel Lois (Morse)
Watkins. She grew up in The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High
School in 1965.
She received
a degree in education in 1969 from what is now Southern Oregon
University. She was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She
taught school in Salem (Oregon), Oregon City (Oregon) and Central Point
(Oregon) for 29 years.
She was a
member of several education associations, enjoyed collecting antiques,
shopping for bargains, world travel, traveling in the family's motor
home and trail riding in the desert in their Jeep.
She is
survived by her husband, David Olen Barlow, Medford, whom she married
on September 19, 1970, in Salem; a son, Dorian, Portland; a daughter,
Katarina "Katie", Medford; her parents, Leonard and Muriel Watkins,
Salem; a sister, Janet Gates and one grandchild.
Memorial
service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Phoenix (Oregon) Presbyterian
Church, 121 W. 2nd Street, Phoenix. The Reverend Patricia Vanvertol
will officiate. Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory are in
care of arrangements.

Stanley Walker
Rex Stanley Walker, 37, a
former resident of The Dalles and a 1965 graduate of The Dalles High
School died April 23 in Enterprise.
He was born
Sept. 13, 1947 to Stanley and Leone Walker in Hillsboro.
After
graduation from The Dalles High he attended the University of Oregon
for a short while and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served In the
States, Vietnam and in Germany and received an honorable discharge in
1971.
He later
attended Central Washington College in Ellensburg, Wash. And Washington
State University in Pullman. While in the service and In college he was
active in the Navigators and Campus Crusade for Christ.
He had lived
in Denver, Colo. Before moving to Whitefish, Mont., and later to
Enterprise.
Survivors
include his parents in Enterprise; a brother, Dr. Scott Walker, Mulino;
a nephew and niece, Brett and Erica Walker, both in Mulino.
Funeral
services were held April 25 in Enterprise and burial was in the

Mark W. Westlund
A memorial
service will be at 2p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in Zoar Evangelical
Lutheran Church Canby for Mark W. Westlund, who died Sept. 28, 2007 of
pancreatic cancer at age 60. Mark W. Westlund was born Aug. 25, 1947,
in The Dalles. He graduated from Pacific University and lived in Texas,
Illinois, Washington and California before moving in 1979 to Canby,
where he was a music teacher for the Canby School District for
28 years. In 1971, he married Alice Wagnon. Survivors include
his wife; sons, Erik and Micah; sister, Tonia Culpepper; and two
